We know Australian Opals well, but for a few years now a new opal has been stealing the show; the Welo Opal ! This stone is white and translucent with the famous unique reflections of the Opal. Its deposits are located in the mountainous Semien Wollo region of northwest Ethiopia. This stone has become the new treasure of Ethiopia.

It is recognizable by its white color and its beautiful transparency that reflects yellow, orange, red and green opalised reflections. 

The word "opal" comes from the Sanskrit word "Upala", via the Greek "opallios" which would designate changes of color.
